The other day I was searching for the local drag racing event calender for Ruapuna in Christchurch on the Pegasus Bay Drag Racing Club website and stumbled on some great vintage shots from what looks to be the ’60′s – ’80′s down on the old Ruapuna drag strip. I used to love going down there on the weekend with my Dad to watch the drags. There is nothing better than the sound of a ripping V8 at full noise. Here are some of my favourite photo’s from the site. I’m sure there are some stories about each photo so please email us if you have the information. Click on the PBDRC link above to find current happenings, see more cool old photo’s and some great old footage from classic nor’ wester days down on the the Canterbury Drag strip. Get your stubbies on, take your shirt off and crack a cold can of DB and enjoy.

Wow what another fuckin fun day out at the Rattle Up. For the Rattle Up 2012 the sun was blearing and beer went down with ease, even if I was drinking VB…. This event is held on private property hosted by the Scavengers ChCh. It is a true core event attended only by true hot rod heads. A bunch of cool cars and cool people. Its a maze to find the location out on the Canterbury plains and if you’re in the know you know where to go. Once you’re there you pay your $10, sign your life away and bam you’re in for a good time. With the dirt track getting hammered and burnout pad getting skidded up a storm by people who really like to use their Hot Rods, you just can’t beat it!
Last week Jason Jessee was awarded the’Legend’award by Transworld Skateboarding Magazine. He doesn’t really need to be awarded this to be a legend in my books.
This movie isn’t new but it maybe to you? If not watch it again. For the books Jason never got paid for this movie and is pretty off it from what i’ve heard. Just as well its free then.
I met Ryan briefly at the Rangiora show this year, he’s an Ozy dude that I’ve seen over the last couple of shows striping up a storm. He Striped Issacs bare metal Harley, and thats him sitting in the Gasser painting the air intake that you’ll see if you scroll below from the Rangiora MCM photo’s. Looking at this clip he’s quite the man at laying down the tape. Lots of time and patience….press play.
Two weekends ago was Bowlarama 2012 held in Wellington. I was lucky enough to be pool side for the event. These guys absolutely destroy this place! Here is a wee clip poached from you tube
This years Muscle Car Madness was another super fun event. Great cars to check out, friends to catch up with and amazing people watching make the event. Its a truely interesting spectacle. The sun was blazing on the Saturday so finding shade was a must from time to time. The Scavengers had some cool as new cars, with the Orpwoods’48 Buick looking mean. Paul French’s bare metal, heavily Channeled A coupe powered by big block Hemi of course. Issac Mcleary had his Iron head Chopper, Ophy in his now bagged, Notched, frenched and shaved ’54 Chevy doing the long haul from Invercargill illegaly. The southern boys always commit hard, ever changing their cars and bikes, dragging most of the Lurkers north. So cool to see the motivation. Enough of the writing, we’re already excited for next year, here is a bit of coverage from the Saturday.
Summer in Canterbury New Zealand is amazing on days like today. Fuckin hot and not a breath of wind. A perfect day to convoy out on the country roads from shakey Christchurch south west to Methven.
